All this cold, rainy weather is making it challenging to go outside. So, I’ve been thinking about one of our family’s favorite inside adventures, Tellus Science Museum. The museum is located in Cartersville, GA, about 50 minutes north of Atlanta.
Here are 10 reasons to visit Tellus Science Museum on a cold, rainy day or a sunny day:
-
Dinosaurs, dinosaurs, and more dinosaurs. Who doesn’t love dinosaurs? What kid doesn’t love dinosaurs? The exhibit features Stan the T-rex, marine animals native to Georgia, and you can touch some fossilized poop. It’s our favorite part of the museum. Don’t miss the Megaladon jaw!
- Visit the the fossil dig, where you can dig for real fossils. On our last visit we came home with a few shark teeth.
- While you’re at the fossil dig stop by the gem mining, too.
- See meteors that have crashed into our home state of Georgia, including one that crashed through a house.
- The mineral gallery features gold, gems, and local minerals.
- Make your own earthquake.
- The Bentley Planetarium takes you on an adventure through space.
- “My Big Back Yard” is an interactive space for the youngest scientist. Kids can
play with magnets, light, electricity and so much more.
- The museum store has rock candy.
- The motion gallery featuring trains, planes, lunar modules, and a replica sputnik.
Bonus: There’s a Waffle House next door.
