The First Day Hike is a tradition for many families. The first hike on the first day of the year is a special memory in the rhythms of the year. We look forward to the new year and reflect on the past while wondering through the woods. I hope your family can enjoy this tradition this year.
Here are three hikes 2023 First Day Hikes we recommend:
January 1 is open gate day at Lula Lake Land Trust , so get your tickets and head about 2 hours north west of Atlanta for the perfect First Day Hike. We recommend the creatively named, out and back trail, for these three reasons:
- There are 2 waterfalls and a lake.
- Picnic at the lake.
- It follows an easy, wide path. The hike down to the bottom of Lula Falls is a little more challenging but worth it.
- Bonus: A day at Lula Lake inspired Four Discovery. That story can be foundĀ here.
Want to stay close to the city? Then, the East Palisades Trails in the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area would make for a wonderful First Day Hike. Here are three reasons why
- Bamboo Forest.
- The best view in Metro-Atlanta.
- It’s a challenge, but not too challenging.
Three reasons to head back to North Georgia for a hike to Preacher’s Rock.
- One of the best views in North Georgia.
- It’s consider one of the easier day hikes on the Georgia portion of the Appalachian Trail.
- It’s close to a few mountain towns to grab lunch and continue your adventure.
Bonus Adventures: Red Top Mountain State Park and Sweet Water Creek State Park.
